Ibufen d, suspension. Ibufen syrup: instructions for use Ibufen indications for use

Children often suffer from infectious diseases; young parents need to know which medications are suitable for young patients. Ibufen for children will help reduce body temperature and eliminate pain. A special formula is developed for the child’s body, it quickly copes with the task, the suspension (syrup) is easy to use, children like the pleasant taste and aroma.

How and in what quantities to give Ibufen for children, what are the indications and contraindications for the drug? Answers to questions of interest to young parents are described in the following material.

Pharmacological properties

Ibufen belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The drug has an antipyretic and analgesic effect. The positive effect of the medication is ensured by the main active ingredient – ibuprofen. The component inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which affects the metabolism of arachidonic acid, which helps reduce prostaglandins.

The process leads to a decrease in the inflammatory process, since the latter substance is responsible for the pathological condition in the child’s body. Body temperature returns to normal, the active component of the syrup for children prevents excitation of the temperature center of the brain and reduces the concentration of pain impulses.

An analgesic and antipyretic agent is achieved much faster than the anti-inflammatory effect. To relieve unpleasant symptoms, a smaller dose of medication is required than to eliminate the source of inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effect is observed only on the seventh day of treatment with Ibufen for children.

Most of the active components of the drug are absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. The lion's share of the drug is excreted in the bile. The maximum antipyretic effect is achieved half an hour after taking the drug and lasts for eight hours; the specific duration of action depends on the individual characteristics of the baby’s body and metabolic rate.

Reviews

About the use of suppositories occurs a lot of positive feedback. Mothers praise the drug in this form because it can be easily used for infants, the suppository is easy to administer, and there are no harmful chemical additives in this medication. In addition, the advantage of this “Ibuprofen” is its longer action (compared to the suspension), and side effects when using suppositories are extremely rare.

Analogues

Instead of suppositories, other suppositories can be used, the action of which leads to a decrease in body temperature or a decrease in pain, for example:

  • "Nurofen". Such suppositories are also made on the basis of ibuprofen, and 1 suppository contains 60 mg of the active compound. They are prescribed for fever in babies over 3 months old.
  • "Cefekon D". The action of this medication is provided by paracetamol. Such suppositories are prescribed to children older than one month.
  • "Panadol". The main component of such suppositories is also paracetamol. In childhood they are prescribed from 3 months.

Ibufen is a modern antipyretic and analgesic drug based on Ibuprofen, which can alleviate the condition of a sick adult or child within 30 minutes. Therapists and pediatricians safely prescribe Ibufen to their large and small patients as part of complex therapy for influenza, sore throat, ARVI, pain in joints, bones and muscles. Just one capsule or a few milliliters of syrup quickly reduces the temperature and relieves pain, but how?

Mechanism of fever: how does Ibufen affect it?

Substances that provoke high body temperature are called pyrogens. They can be of two types:

  • Exogenous, that is, external - this group includes some medications, toxic substances, bacteria, etc.;
  • Endogenous - those that the body produces itself.

As soon as exogenous pyrogens enter the body, they trigger the mechanism for the production of endogenous pyrogens. The latter, moving through the circulatory system, sooner or later enter the hypothalamus, and it begins to produce prostaglandins.

They, in turn, act on special nerve cells of the hypothalamus, which are responsible for thermoregulation. Because of this, nerve cells begin to work in enhanced mode, and what can be compared to switching a thermostat occurs. Heat production increases, heat transfer decreases and the body heats up like a kettle.

It turns out that in order to bring down the temperature and stop the “boiling”, you need to turn the “thermostat sensor” back, that is, reduce the load on the nerve cells of the hypothalamus. The only way to do this is by stopping the process of prostaglandin production.

This is precisely the mechanism by which Ibuprofen works. But it acts on prostaglandins not directly, but indirectly - it inhibits the production of cyclooxygenase. Without this enzyme, the synthesis of archidonic acid, which forms prostaglandins, is impossible.

All these complex biochemical processes occur quite quickly. Once in the stomach, Ibufen is absorbed with lightning speed and releases the active substance into the blood, the antipyretic effect of which will appear within half an hour. After another 2-3 hours, the effect of the medicine will reach its peak, and the temperature will return to normal.

It must be said that Ibufen “kills” not only those prostaglandins that are produced in the hypothalamus and provoke fever, but also those that are formed in damaged tissues. This is the so-called peripheral effect of Ibufen, which relieves inflammation. That is why the medicine is so effective for various injuries of joints, bones, inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system and, of course, for teething in babies.

The antipyretic and analgesic effect of Ibufen appears earlier than the anti-inflammatory effect. This means that a temperature brought down to an acceptable level and the absence of pain is not a reason to stop taking the drug. To completely destroy the source of infection or inflammation, Ibufen must be taken for several more days.

Indications for use of Ibufen

  1. Increased body temperature with:
  • Cold;
  • ARVI;
  • Inflammatory diseases of the ENT organs (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, etc.);
  • Childhood infections (chickenpox, rubella, mumps, scarlet fever, etc.);
  • Post-immunization fever.

  1. Elimination of pain syndrome with:
  • Inflammation in the middle ear;
  • Toothache in adults and teething in children;
  • Headaches and migraines;
  • Neuralgia;
  • Muscle pain;
  • Injuries, stretch marks;
  • Pain in bones and joints;
  • Postoperative pain.

Suppositories, capsules and suspension: how not to get confused when choosing Ibufen?

There are several forms of release of the drug. Some people find it more pleasant to drink sweet syrup, others prefer to swallow a capsule, and it’s easier for a 3-month-old baby to put a rectal suppository. Here are the most common names of the drug:

Name Release form Active ingredient concentration Age group
Sweet suspension 100 mg in 5 ml Children, including infants, adults
Ibufen D Forte Suspension 200 mg per 5 ml Adults and children from 1 year
Ibufen Ultra Gelatin capsules 200 mg per capsule Adults and children from 6 years old
Ibufen Junior Gelatin capsules 200 mg per capsule Adults and children from 6 years old
Ibufen Baby Rectal suppositories 60 mg per suppository Children from 3 months
125 mg per suppository Children from 2 years old (weighing from 12.5 kg)

Ibufen: instructions for use

Ibufen in syrup and capsules is recommended to be taken after meals. The main thing is to correctly calculate the dosage. Many pediatricians argue that it is not entirely correct to calculate the amount of active substance based on the child’s age; it is better to focus on his weight.

Universal formula: 5-10 mg of Ibuprofen per 1 kg of body weight. The maximum daily dose for children should not exceed 20-30 mg of active substance per kilogram of weight. The break between two doses of the medicine should be at least 4 hours.

For adult patients, the single and daily dose of the drug is calculated individually, depending on the intensity of the disease. Typically, this is 200 to 800 mg of Ibuprofen at a time. At the same time, 400 mg per 1 kg of body weight of an adult at one time is already an overdose, fraught with serious consequences.

Ibufen is not prescribed to infants under 3 months of age whose body weight has not yet reached 6 kg. Infants from 3 to 6 months can be given suppositories only according to the strict instructions of the pediatrician, who must calculate the required dose himself.

Ibufen does not tend to accumulate in the blood. Within 24 hours, it is completely eliminated from the body by the kidneys, having undergone a metabolization process in the liver. Therefore, in case of severe liver damage and renal failure, Ibufen is contraindicated. You will also have to look for other painkillers and antipyretics:

  1. For asthmatics;
  2. Ulcers;
  3. Hypertensive patients;
  4. People suffering from heart failure;
  5. Pregnant and lactating women.

Regarding the last group of patients, not everything is so clear. If the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus, Ibufen can be taken, but only as prescribed by a doctor and only in the first and second trimesters. The drug should not be taken in the last months of pregnancy.

As for the period of breastfeeding, medical comments are ambiguous. According to some studies, the amount of Ibuprofen that passes into milk is negligible. However, pediatricians strongly do not recommend combining breastfeeding with taking anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs, for fear of side effects in the baby - rash, stomach upset, kidney failure.

You should not take Ibufen if you have hemophilia and poor blood clotting, a tendency to hemorrhages (sudden hemorrhages), Quincke's edema and impaired absorption of carbohydrates.

Side effects and symptoms of overdose

The fact that you have taken too much Ibufen can be judged by increasing nausea and general malaise. The toxic effect of the drug will manifest itself if 80 doses are taken at a time, that is, more than 400 mg of active substance per 1 kg of body weight of an adult.

There is no individual antidote, so the only thing that can be done in this case is emergency lavage of the gastrointestinal tract (effective only within the first hour), restoration of the acid-base balance, and intake of activated carbon.

Side effects of the drug are most often observed in the gastrointestinal tract: flatulence, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting. Ibufen can also provoke allergic reactions - hives, rash, itching.

Much less frequently, malfunctions in the central nervous system do occur. The patient becomes apathetic, drowsy, and remains in a foggy state of consciousness. You may experience headaches and dizziness, and periodic tinnitus.

Possible severe side effects of Ibufen include:

  • A sharp decrease in pressure;
  • Acute renal failure;
  • Increased acidity;
  • Liver dysfunction;
  • Convulsions;
  • Tachycardia;
  • Attacks of suffocation;
  • Coma.

Even if you do not overdose and take exactly the right amount of Ibuprofen for your body weight, you may experience slight dizziness. This is why it is not recommended to drive during treatment.

Compatibility of Ibufen with alcohol and some medications

The risk of side effects, especially those related to gastrointestinal disorders, will increase if the patient decides to combine the drug with alcohol consumption. Even a small dose of ethyl alcohol will not allow Ibuprofen to work at full strength and will reduce the medicinal effect. The duration of action of the drug will be reduced by at least half. During this period, Ibuprofen will not have time to cope with the inflammation, which means the temperature will rise again and pain will appear again.

You should not combine Ibufen with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, for example, acetylsalicylic acid. It neutralizes the effect of Ibuprofen and increases the likelihood of adverse reactions.

The same applies to diuretics - drugs that are most often used in the treatment of kidney disease, in particular edema. Ibuprofen will prevent them from working at their full potential, and there is a real risk of developing kidney failure.

As for the compatibility of Ibufen and Paracetamol, which is most often of interest to young mothers, pediatricians do not have a consensus on this matter. Both of these drugs are classified as antipyretics, and until recently doctors advised eliminating fever by combining them together.

Moreover, ready-made combined synthetic drugs based on Ibuprofen and Paracetamol are available for sale (for example, Brustan, Ibuklin). But recent medical studies prove that such a combination does not make sense, since these drugs do not become more effective when paired. In any case, you should not take both at once. The drugs can be alternated, but be sure to maintain an interval of 6-8 hours between antipyretic doses.

Therefore, despite the fact that all forms of Ibufen are sold without a prescription, you should take it only after consulting a doctor. You should definitely tell your doctor about the medications you take on an ongoing basis. The shelf life of the suspension and capsules is 3 years, but when you open the syrup, remember: after six months you will no longer be able to drink it.

The relatively low price of Ibufen makes it a top seller. By correctly calculating the dose, you can be sure that the medicine will act quickly and effectively. Even small children drink it without any problems - the syrups have a pleasant fruity taste and aroma.

Only side effects can be alarming, but they are most likely only in case of an overdose. Be that as it may, you should not self-medicate. If you have been taking Ibufen for three days in a row, and the temperature still periodically rises, you should stop taking the drug and look for the cause of the prolonged fever with your doctor.

Ibufen: reviews

“The pediatrician prescribed Ibufen D, but strictly forbade giving the syrup on an empty stomach - it has a very strong effect on the stomach, so that there are no side effects, you must first eat at least something. The first time I gave my daughter (11.5 months) the entire required dose from a measuring spoon. The syrup is sweet, smells of citrus, she took a sip, but immediately threw it all up. I had to bring down the temperature with Paracetamol. In the end, we got to the hospital and there the nurse showed how to give Ibufen so that there was no vomiting reaction. She diluted the syrup with water and gradually poured it into the baby, one teaspoon at a time. The child swallowed calmly, the temperature subsided after half an hour.”

“The first remedy for fever in our medicine cabinet is Ibufen ultra in capsules. With the flu, it lowers the temperature from 38.5 to 36 in 30 minutes. I also drink it when I have headaches – it just relieves everything. True, I often don’t abuse Ibufen, only in extreme cases, when I can no longer endure it, otherwise there are too many side effects. And by the way, the capsules are very large and hard. Sin is 12 years old, he can’t swallow them at all.”
